Noura Berrouba is a passionate young leader, mobilizer and advocate for youth participation, human rights, peacebuilding, active citizenship and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, active in both the Swedish and European civil society.

 

Noura serves on the Governing Body of the European Youth Parliament (EYP), the largest platform for non-formal political education of young Europeans. The EYP brings together young people from all over Europe to discuss current topics. EYP is present in 40 European countries and organises almost 600 events every year. The EYP network organises almost 1.500 days of EYP activity every year, involving close to 35.000 participants. Noura also serves on the board of the National Council of Swedish Youth Organisations (LSU), which gathers over 700 000 young Swedes in 83 member organisations. LSU gathers Sweden’s youth organisations to collectively improve the conditions for youth organisations, in Sweden and on a global level.

 

Noura was the official Swedish Youth Delegate to the United Nations in 2016. She joined the Swedish governmental delegations to the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly in New York and the 2nd High Level Meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation in Nairobi. Noura delivered a speech on behalf of Sweden and the National Council of Swedish Youth Organisations to the 3rd Committee of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly and lead the Swedish CSO delegation to the UN Forum on Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law in Geneva.

 

In 2017, Noura joined the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Expert Group for Europe and Central Asia. The Expert Group consisting of representatives of national statistical offices, policy makers, research and civil society organization has been convened to define a regional monitoring framework to review progress in the implementation of the Framework of Action of the ICPD beyond 2014 in the United Nations Economic Commision for Europe (UNECE) region.

 

In 2018 Noura was appointed to the Swedish government’s Advisory Council for Sustainable Consumption. The government has commissioned the Consumer Agency to establish and provide a forum for environmentally friendly consumption.

 

Noura serves on the board of Biskops Arnö, the Nordic Folk High School. The school conducts cultural and educational work and arranges courses in photography, film, writing, culture, history, ecology and wellness.

 

Noura is a frequent lecturer, panelist and commentator. In 2017, Noura was placed 14th on Makthavare’s list of 100 future policy makers in Sweden.
