Company: ‎Red Cross Nordic United World College

Title: Student

Country: Nepal

Sector: Education

Age: 20

Hari was only 7 years old when he was sent far away from home to work as a dish washer and servant. As one of 12 siblings from a poor family, he needed to make an income for his family when most kids go to school and play with their friends. Growing up as a child worker, orphaned at a young age, surviving a bomb blast directed at his bus, and seeing children around him dying of hunger, he has experienced more hardship than most will ever do, but this has made him an activist fighting to make a positive change in the world. Receiving a scholarship to attend the United World Colleges turned his life around. This is a story about one amazing young man’s journey from poverty to activism. About how tough experiences can be used for good, and about the impact of education and being given opportunities.
